Stress-Busting Bookworming.
Tuesday, February 10, 2009 23:11I may have overspent on books over the last 7 days. I don’t know what got into me; perhaps the anticipation of lots of free time after March 9? And I haven’t even read a number of books I’ve bought the last time! Curse Fully Booked for opening a branch in Greenbelt. Curse them!
Here are the books:
1. The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand). Because Parce has already taken more than a year just to get past the first few chapters, I decided to write off what she owed and gave her my (previously) sole copy. Now I have my own. Again. Keyword: ideal.
2. The Google Story (David A. Vise). It’s the Google team’s fault: their visit last week got me interested again in going beyond AdSense and SEO opportunities. I thought I knew how their story went. I read the first few pages of the book and I realized I have to know a lot more about what’s what in the new ballgame I’m about to play. There are dues I have to pay and the shortcut’s to read from Google’s early struggles to the success they’re enjoying now. Keyword: innovation.
3. Sun Tzu: The Art of War for Managers: 50 Strategic Rules (Gerald A. Michaelson). I’ve seen this book before in another bookstore; I thought it’d be great if I could read it (and own it), but I didn’t really have any use for it then. Now is another story. Keyword: strategy.
4. Retire Young, Retire Rich (Robert T. Kiyosaki). Okay, I’ve read Rich Dad, Poor Dad and it confirmed everything I thought was right about managing careers and businesses and interests; I loved the book so much that I picked up another book, Rich Kid Smart Kid, for my dad and Jules last Christmas. I’ve picked up another book by the same author today, thinking it should set the right perspective, but found out just now that there’s a better title available from Kiyosaki: Before You Quit Your Job. Keyword: time.
5. Trump: The Art of the Deal (Donald J. Trump). I admit: I got the book because of the name and nothing else. I haven’t even seen a page of it before I bought it. I’ve heard how Trump loves to think big, and right now that’s just the way I feel. I love his quote on the back cover:
“I like thinking big. I always have. To me it’s very simple: If you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big.”
- Donald Trump
I can’t wait to see what he has to say. Keyword: big.
6. Pour Your Heart Into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time (Howard Schultz). People have said it about me before: I tend to go overboard with my ideas. I tend to expect things beyond what’s forseeable. I guess they’re telling me just that: one cup at a time. Keyword: pace.
Enough writing. Time to start reading.

i know a holding company of trump is reported to be near closing… i don’t know the update on that now. and starbucks… thrown out their own CEO. haha and when the big economic crunch came, they asked him to go back coz he had the biggest share. oh business. sometimes when you’re up the only way is to go down. that’s the law of nature baby. a big game of wager.
