I had to leave WordCamp Philippines 2009 a few minutes early because I had to drive back home and ready myself for Jyl’s debut. Everyone in the family was there, and I was not about to miss the event they’ve been planning for several months. And I was not about to miss the mobile bar that the debutante’s brothers set up for her. I thought: great, lotsa kids are gonna be throwing up later.

The event was just about to start when I started drinking light shots at the bar. It was nothing, of course, but I had this stupid idea of going for a Brain Damage just before the host announced that the program was going to start in 10 seconds. The stressful day prior to WordCamp, my lack of sleep, and having been up so early in the morning all flew out the window as I went for it. Needless to say, I had a whapakk moment and I flared up (read: Dikembe Mutombo red) and had to escape from the venue for a few minutes before everyone in the family saw me in that state.

That by which you know people are gonna get drunk.

I had a bottle of Pop Cola outside while recovering from the drink. I realized that right now, alcoholic drinks except beer are lethal to me; I’m in no shape to go and drink and be merry out there in KL and I’ll probably lose if I bet on a drinking game with the MY Nuffies. Damn it. Does this mean I have to straighten up my sleeping habits and start drinking on a regular basis again? I hope not.

Jyl had her mini-concert and I’m really wishing her well because if she succeeds in the career she’s pursuing, I’d finally be able to take a lot of photos with a celebrity, have her sign it, and auction it off on eBay. (No, I’m just kidding about the eBay thing.)

By the end of the night, I found myself giving up on the alcohol as I still had to drive home, which sucks, because as much as I wanted to go crazy, it was not the ideal setting for going all out. Probably later, because it’s a holiday, and holidays mean you’ve got twenty four hours to be stupid and crazy before cleaning up your act and showing up for another work day.
