KL Day Six.
Sunday, November 8, 2009 9:36(This is part of a series of entries from my October 2009 trip to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. This entry is from October 31, 2009, on my sixth day in Kuala Lumpur.)
I didn’t really have anything much planned for the day except for the All-American Rejects concert I said yes to the previous day, so it was up in the air, how I was going to spend my sixth day in KL. I remember being so tired that morning because I did a lot of walking the last couple of days (with Firdauz and Tim).
So that morning, I joined Jestina and Nicholas at Bukit Bintang (again) for the Dutch Lady booth’s second day and to meet Joshua Ong, one of their bloggers. We’d later have Tom Yam for lunch, which as I figured was very, very different from what we have here in Manila.
I returned to the hotel after lunch to take a nap as I felt I needed to recharge a bit for the concert later on, but after about an hour I decided I was wasting time as a tourist so I up and left for Bukit Bintang again to walk to Pavilion. I was prepared to buy whatever would catch my fancy, and thankfully none did. I got out of the mall with everything in my wallet intact.
I then met David and Huiwen for dinner. If I was in Manila and I had Chinese food everyday, I’d be so sick of it, I’d throw up. But in KL (and Singapore, as well), it was different. There was the pressure to experience all the new things I could experience, and that’s the main reason why I really wanted to try eating anything there, even if it meant Chinese food everyday.
Then we proceeded to the concert venue, Bukit Jalil National Stadium’s carpark, for DiGi Music’s All-American Rejects concert. It’s been a long time since I got myself in a concert this big (I’m not counting the Ako Mismo event because I got to stay in front, which “sterilized” the whole experience for me (which was good, too, and I’d be a fool to complain about VIP passes).
A few observations: the Malaysian crowd was really wild, but they were not violent. I liked that a lot, because I remember past concerts I attended in Manila where they had crazy crowds, icepicks, pillboxes, snatchers, or people who just wanted to stir trouble. ( But I’m not saying that all concerts in Manila are like that; in fact, most are not.)
The pro-DiGi crowd waved long yellow clappers and sang along loudly to the All-American Rejects’ songs. Apparently, the band was such a big hit in Malaysia, perhaps kind of like Fall Out Boy here in Manila. Tim, Audrey, David, and Huiwen played the part of big fans while I played the part of a tourist who just happened to know the songs and liked the band. Haha, oh yeah.
After the concert, Tim and Audrey gave me a ride back to the hotel. I was so depressed after that, because we capped off the night by finally saying goodbye, for the following day was going to be my last day in Malaysia.
