Pre-Musicfest 2010: Kris Allen, Boyce Avenue, and the Jabbawockeez!

I met Georgina Wilson yesterday. (Okay, truth is I just asked for a picture before she left. I’m a loser like that.)

Georgina Wilson.

Georgina Wilson.

It was Musicfest 2010’s press conference and in attendance were a truckload of press people and a small contingent of bloggers that included me, Carlos, Maki, Mica, and Patty. And on stage? Georgina Wilson, Channel [V]’s newest VJ (and my former Girl on TV: LMAO LFO), and Mo Twister.

Boyce Avenue is performing tomorrow here in the country for the second time; they’ve made it as stars by accumulating 90 million hits on YouTube and being one of the top eight YouTube artists of all time. In fact, they’ve utilized the video-sharing platform so well in getting themselves in the mainstream that whenever I look at them, I lose confidence in myself and this ukelele making it big in cybermusicspace. They’re so good that I feel inspired to cover their covers. In nine words: damn Boyce Avenue for making me feel so inferior.

The Jabbawockeez answered a nice question Carlos posed yesterday: “Would you be willing to battle the Philippine All-Stars on the dancefloor?” They said they’d rather collaborate with the said dance group. Damn it, a battle between them would have been a real sight. I guess the only thing we could do is settle for the next best thing: watch the Jabbawockeez next (sort of) to Boyce Avenue and Kris Allen.

Finally, Kris Allen (winner of the eighth season of American Idol) made it through the collective musical consciousness with his rendition of Kanye West’s Heartless. Guess what? He also plays the ukelele. That’s our instant musical connection right there. Kidding aside, I think his personal effort of writing and producing his own album (entitled Brand New Shoes) and distributing 600 copies of it to his friends and family was admirable. It takes a lot of guts to do something like that, and guts he had, I think.

Boyce Avenue, the Jabbawockeez, and Kris Allen will all be performing tomorrow at the SM City Cebu North Open Parking 2 and on Saturday night at the McKinley Hill Open Grounds. Tickets are available through TicketWorld (891-9999).

One more parting shot before I go:

I'm actually as tall as Georgina; she just had to wear them damned heels.

I love you, goodbye.
